Our team recently went on a 3D2N staff retreat to Melaka from 14 to 16 August 2026, with a good mix of learning, good food, history, culture and, of course, lots of shopping.
After a four-hour drive from Singapore, we arrived in Melaka and began our retreat with lunch at Atlantic Nyonya Restaurant, where we enjoyed our first taste of the city’s well-known Peranakan cuisine. After checking in at Hatten Hotel, the team had some free time to rest, explore the surroundings or get a little shopping done before the evening programme.
Our first evening brought together professional learning and team bonding over dinner at Tumis Restaurant. Dr Wong opened the session with an informative presentation on Ebola, providing valuable insights into the disease and highlighting the importance of continuous learning and preparedness in the ever-evolving field of infectious diseases. This was followed by a presentation from our management team on the importance of audits and continuous service improvement. We then headed to the famous Jonker Street Night Market, where we took in the beautiful sights of Melaka by night, soaked in the lively atmosphere as we browsed the stalls and enjoyed some shopping and local treats.
The following morning, we set off on a four-hour private walking tour of Melaka. Exploring the city on foot gave us a deeper appreciation of Melaka’s rich history, heritage and diverse cultural influences as we visited landmarks such as The Stadthuys, Dutch Square (Red Square), A Famosa and Christ Church Melaka, among many others. At the end of the tour, our guide brought us back to the tour agency for a fun quiz to put our newfound knowledge to the test. We were pleasantly surprised by how much some of us had picked up along the way — proof that we had been paying more attention than expected!
After another delicious lunch together at Wild Coriander Melaka, we enjoyed some free and easy time again. We reunited that evening for our final dinner at Peranakan Mansion, where we dined amidst a beautiful collection of Peranakan artefacts and décor that offered another glimpse into Melaka’s rich cultural heritage.
The next day, we had a simple reflection session where we thanked Dr Wong and Dr Lam for making the retreat possible, as well as to our colleagues for the good times in Melaka and the support we have given one another throughout our time working together. We wrapped up our three days in Melaka with plenty of good memories and shared experiences. It was an enjoyable retreat and a much-appreciated opportunity to take some time off work to relax and spend time together as a team.
