IDS Staff Retreat 2025

The IDS team recently came together for a 2D1N retreat — a refreshing pause from our work routines to reconnect, reflect, and celebrate the people who keep IDS going. With the theme “Singapore Culture”, the retreat blended learning, bonding, and a touch of healthy competition.

We began with lunch at STREATS Café before heading to IDS@Farrer for the first activities. Split into two groups, we kicked things off by picking team names: The Merlion Masters and The Cross-Cultural Crew, both playful nods to Singapore’s diversity. A series of games followed, marked by lively competition as teams tested their quick thinking, communication, and teamwork. From creating a chain of empowering words to a tricky blindfolded water-passing challenge, each activity highlighted how different strengths come together to achieve a common goal. The afternoon moved into a reflective session, “Beyond the Bare Minimum: Spotting the Line between Mistake and Mindset.” Case studies and an open discussion with our doctors gave everyone the chance to share, learn, and consider how we can keep raising the quality of patient care at IDS.

After checking into One Farrer Hotel, the day ended with dinner at Cherry & Oak — which is also for our Nurses’ Day celebration. However, our doctors expressed their appreciation not only our Nurses but also the rest of the staff for their hardworking efforts. Later that evening, some explored Mustafa Centre while others went for karaoke, enjoying the chance to see one another outside the usual work setting and simply let loose!

Day 2 started with breakfast before setting off on a heritage walking tour of Chinatown with our ever-spirited guide. The tour brought history to life, showing how past experiences still shape the present. A delicious nasi padang lunch at Pagi Sore followed, before we headed back for a light-hearted round of quizzes — from emoji puzzles on MRT stations to a pop quiz on our heritage tour, ending with spot-the-difference games.

The retreat closed with a review of recent performance and reflections for the months ahead. After the prize presentation by our Doctors, the team was surprised with a special announcement of good news — a fitting finale to the two days together.

This retreat gave us the chance to see colleagues beyond their work personas; and to share moments and laughter that do not always surface in the clinic. It offered a fresh perspective on one another, and with it, a reminder that stronger connections can help us work more cohesively and effectively as a team.

We thank our Doctors and organisers for making this year’s retreat possible, and look forward to the next chance to unwind together.
